Fashion Week is Upon Us!

Fashion Week is Upon Us!

Fashion Week is the make it or break it for a season of fashion choices. As stylists prepare, photographers scramble, and models fight for the runway, we sit back and take note of what comes out of each production. I find it inspirational-the patterns, the shapes, the colors. Keep up on fashion week with style caster! New Year’s Eve Sparkle

The new year is just two short days away, time to write the resolutions. I find that starting a new years resolution doesn’t always pan out the way we think, which is why I have already started mine. Here it is: take every opportunity, experience new things, make new friends, enjoy each day for what it is, worry less, be healthy. A very broad resolution, easier to keep in my opinion. I have found myself taking opportunities I would have never before and its liberating. Example 1: my New Years Eve plans. I purchased a ticket to see Pretty Lights perform at the Roseland Ballroom in the city. This is the first year I will not be posted up at a house party with close friends. This ticket purchase was the most impulsive thing I’ve done since up and going to Bonnaroo over the summer. So in the spirit of the New Year, I hope everyone reading this also takes the time to enjoy life a little more. Be impulsive, spontaneous, and fabulous for the New Year. Now, for my favorite part of NYE-Sparkle! I love all the glitter and shiny outfits on the racks and still have to pick one to ring in the new year! I will be doing my shopping last minute of course and keeping my fingers crossed for the perfect dress. If you are an online shopper, on a budget, you MUST check out gojane.com. Love this site and they have some fun sparkle for the new year. I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and fabulous New Year!

Christmas is here, time for cheer!

The month of December has finally brought about a shift in the norm for me. I started a new job as a waitress at an Irish bar down the street. I love it so far! Good people, good food, just all around good vibes in this place. I also love the fact that I walk to work, it gives me time to clear my head and just be happy about life. I have tickets to see Zeds Dead this weekend in the city, just in time for a much needed mini vacation. I love the city this time of year and I can’t wait to get there and see some old friends. The holiday’s are always cheerful and the New Year brings about new dreams, ambitions, goals, and outlook on life. Upcycle has been doing well also! Made a few holiday inspired rings (available on etsy.com/shop/upcyclellc) and just finished taking pictures of all the holiday sweaters. Since the site isn’t ready, they will be for sale through Upcycle’s Facebook page if anyone is looking for some! (www.facebook.com/upcyclellc) Those ugly xmas sweater parties are coming up soon, got some pretty funny finds. Anyway, I wish everyone a wonderful holiday week and much happiness. I am grateful for my supportive family, true friends, and life opportunities. I hope everyone takes this time to cherish the blessings in their life and spend time with family and friends.

The Apartment Renovation Complete!

After a grueling summer and fall of cleaning, tearing down, and re building…the apartment is complete! I successfully moved in on my 22nd birthday without a working bathroom and no heat…I was determined to be moved in by my birthday the latest. Luckily, a week later the bathroom was up and running and two weeks later my shower was functioning. Up until that point, I was lucky enough to have an aunt downstairs to mooch off of for a warm shower! It took me about a month to get really settled and acquire furniture. My apartment is decorated fabulously with vintage finds from the clean up, Ikea furniture, and Craigslist and Etsy finds. We had quite the challenge moving my things in as the windy staircases weren’t too modern furniture friendly. All in all, it was a successful move and I couldn’t be happier with my cozy little third floor apartment. As for the pictures, the final product is here!

The living room view from the kitchen. I am in LOVE with this gold chair that I found on craigslist. Vintage and in great condition-matches the mirror perfectly!

The kitchen from the living room-chalk board paint on the bottom of the bar is so fun! I can’t wait to decorate it with a tree and little bulb drawings. I also love this bakers rack-currently using it as my own little mini bar!

Image

The office/bedroom. Love the divider-doubles as a book shelf!

Image

Kitchen-have a great pantry and new stove with hood. I wish I could have kept the vintage stove hood but it was no good! I am working on finding a way to get this floor restored, but for now just loving the pink tiles!

My cozy bedroom! Needs one more dresser and I will be all set!

Image

A kitchen sink!! -If you look back to the first installment of my renovation blog postings, you will see that there was never a kitchen sink!! We found a way to run the pipes from here into the bathroom and under the tub-which is the reason I had the misfortune of having my garbage disposal explode into my tub. You can also see my new wall decal of a clock! Love it-Etsy finds are the best.

Image

The bathroom! No longer a missing floor and whole in the wall! Love the vanity-the bathroom still needs some shelving and maybe a makeup vanity, but it’s coming together nicely from what it was!

Image

Another view of the bathroom-I plan to add a vanity with the little school house chair I reinvented. Who knew that tiny chair would be so perfect for this bathroom!

Image

The tub!! Can you believe it?! I didn’t even expect it to come out this nice considering what it looked like when I started! It took 6 magic erasers, 4 brillo pads, and a gallon of bleach but it is looking wonderful! Helpful hint to any other young professionals out there living on their own for the first time: magic erasers clean EVERYTHING! Always have at least 3 in your apartment.
